להורות לעם ה׳ את דרך ה׳. ואת המעשה אשר יעשון כל ימיהם. בשבתם ובקומם. בלכתם ובבואם. למען ייטב להם ולבניהם. בזה ובבא.טוב לגבר כי ישא עול בנעוריו (איכה ג). כי טוב לאדם לשאת ולסבול עולו של הקב"ה ולתת מוסרות ומוטות על צוארו להכנס לעבודת בורא העולם.Sefer ha-Yirah, the Book of Awe, of our Pious Rabbi Yonah Gerondi of blessed memory. To show the people of God the way of God and the deeds which they may do all of their days, when they lie down and when they rise up, when they go and when they come, so that it may be good for them and their children, in this [world] and in [the world-to-] come. I. It is good that a man should take up the Yoke [of the commandments] in his youth. (Lam. 3:27) For it is good that a person should take up and to endure the Yoke of the Holy One Blessed Be He and to set the reins and the staffs upon his neck to enter into the service of the Creator of the World.

ויזכור את בוראו בימי (כחו) [בחורותיו] (כצ"ל. ומלשון הכתוב (קהלת יב). וזכור את בוראיך בימי בחורותיך)Now he should remember his Creator in the days of his youth.

ובכל יום ויום יוסיף אומץ ויתחזק במצות בורא עולם.Each and every day he should strengthen and be encouraged in the commandments of the Creator of the World,

ויכניס אהבתו בלבוhe should bring His love into his heart that to bring love into one’s heart means to act like Abraham in his great love for his fellowmen. He also discusses the commentators on whether love of God and fear of God are one or two separate mitzvot. and

(ויחשוב). [אולי צ"ל וישווה וכמשה"כ (תהלים יז) שויתי ה' לנגדי תמיד] הבורא תמיד לנגד עיניו. ועל ידי כן יתן יראת הצור על פניו.he should think of his Creator [as] eternally before his [very] eyes. And thus he may set the fear of the Rock [of Israel] upon his face, and
